If you haven't heard by now, and I'm pretty slow in posting this one, Apple had some pretty big announcements - here are the links to the press releases:
Long story, short: video on your iPod that you can buy through the iTunes music store. At $1.99/each episode/music video, it's a bit pricey especially if you were to download a season's worth of shows week after week. But maybe as that's the point, or rather - the lesson being taught to the television industry by the marketing geniuses at Apple. I thought
this entry on Engadget about that idea was pretty cool. It's a valuable lesson in strategic marketing.
The third press release link is about the new iMac, with a
built in iSight camera for video chatting. You can use it to take your picture for your IM buddy icon - the neat thing is the screen
works like a flash when you snap your photo.
Yep - flippin' sweet!

Ever feel like all the stuff coming out, as cool as it is is somehow completely and obscenely absurd in light of THOUSANDS dead throughout the world? Don't misunderstand, I love the gadgets and am craving (and planning on buying) more... but there's that nagging reality in the far recesses of my mind that says... "Hm. $1.99 for a video, or $1.99 to feed a child for a week in Uganda... What to do, what to do..."
YES, I know there's infinitely more to it than that, but...

Dude, for some reason there's a background on your blog that makes it hard to read. Are you seeing that?

That new iMac is pretty gimmicky dont you think. I think the best thing about apple is that form and function are always hand in hand, but a remote control seems a bit silly to me.

Well Ben - the answer is simple. Strategery.
I would guess that they are going after the slowly forming Media Center PC crowd. People who want one box for all their entertainment needs. I would guess that there will someday be a Tivo interface that will let you record to your Mac. I'd also guess that the price will come down on TV shows sold on the iTunes Music Store. Like the guy from the article on Engadget says there's still ground that needs to be covered with the TV studios before it will be a perfect solution. After all the iPod is still and iPod, not officially labeled as a "Video iPod."
The remote, on the otherhand - I think is brilliant and agree with this guy. If you haven't seen how the remote is used you really need to check it out.
