Software Seminars in the land of Mouse Ears
I'm taking a business trip. That's the first time I've ever been able to say that phrase. I'm going to a conference in Orlando, Florida. It's for software that my company sells, Best Software - makers of MAS 90/200, MAS 500 & SalesLogix, along with a bunch of others. It's a lot of workshops and things like that but, I'm hoping that I'll be able to have some free time to maybe do some of the tourist stuff. It has been a while since I've been to Florida, 8 years to be precise. The last time I went was the summer after my senior year of high school with my best friend Jeff. The two of us took off for a 2 week trip with 60 packages of Sour Punch Straws a case of IBC Root Beer, our clothes, a tent and plenty of spending money. We procured luxury accommodations, thanks to friends of Jeff's parents along with 3 free days at Disney World. (If you go to Disney World, I highly recommend doing it for free. It's totally worth it.) We hit Orlando, "Clearwater" and Virginia Beach on the way home. Along the trip we got our ears pierced (Yeah, I'm a rebel!), learned the "right way" to jump start a vehicle with a manual transmission, saw the benefits on gas mileage by following a semi at 75+ MPH at less than a car length. We learned how uncomfortable it is to try and sleep in a truck at a campground with an infant two spots away screaming its head off at 2 in the morning, we also learned that we could put together the tent pretty quietly at 2:30 that same morning. It was a trip that I'll always remember. I'm not totally sure if our parents were confident that we'd make it back alive, but they let us go, and in the process we created memories and lived the stories that we still laugh about now. So, off I go to Florida, by way of Canton then Cincinnati. I'll get a rental car and everything. My accommodations probably will be nicer than the tent but, I'm sure this trip to Orlando will be quite different than the one the 18 year-old Josh took with his best buddy. But, I'll let you know if I come home with any more holes in my ears.
